  Danube launches interior design contest

Winners to be announced in May, prizes worth $23,000

DANUBE, a leader in construction, building materials and shop fitting industries, has launched an interior design competition catering to senior collegiate and graduate interior design students from the GCC region.

The competition is being held in partnership with the Association of Professional Interior Designers (APID), an organisation representing professional interior designers in the Gulf region.

The leading company is set to give away prizes with a total value of over Dh 85,000 ($23,141). A special gala dinner will be held in May where the winning entries will be awarded.

The competition is open to any senior or graduate interior design student coming from any college or university within the GCC region. It will be accept individual entries and entries made by a group with a maximum of four members. The deadline of the submission of entries is on May 8.

The competition is split into two categories; the first is for the design of a reception lounge for a small private museum housing a collection of Middle Eastern contemporary art while the second category is for the design of a display fixture.

“The Middle East region is home to some of the most creative and highly talented interior designers, which is strongly reflected in the designs seen in key landmarks like the Burj Khalifa, The Makkah Clock Royal Tower, The Kuwait Towers, among others,” said Danube founder and chairman Rizwan Sajan.

“We have launched this interior design competition as part of a move to help boost the region’s interior design segment and also to discover the talent of emerging interior designers. We look forward to seeing engaging and interesting designs from students coming from all over the region.”

APID president Farida Abdulla Kamber Al Awadhi said: “We laud Danube for its move to host a competition for the region’s rapidly growing interior design industry.

The competition not only aims at throwing the spotlight on the Middle East’s interior design segment but will also increase the level of awareness on the significant role that interior design plays in everyday aspects of our lives. We are proud to be a part of this worthy endeavour.”
